The sound of the wooden cupboard slamming shut echoed in the silent kitchen as the brunette male made his way around the kitchen, his right hand holding onto a tub of cookie dough while his left held a bag of crisps he had found in the pantry. Over the past month and a half, Daniel had gotten used to Jessica’s strange cravings, and no longer questioned them — yet, he still seemed unable to completely wrap his head around the idea that they were actually having a child. It still made him smile sheepishly at the thought, and as he made his way up the stairs two at a time, he couldn’t help but imagine all the different scenarios they would experience with their daughter. He couldn’t wait for her to be brought into this world; Danny’s excitement was one that he could not hide, and almost everyone knew how thrilled he was — he couldn’t wait to see her first steps, or hear her first words (which Danny would try and make sure was something along the lines of ‘Mummy’ or ‘Mama’). The thought of his unborn child only made Danny’s smile widen, and hearing Jess’ voice, he couldn’t help but laugh to himself. Entering their large bedroom, still with a large smile painted across his features, he made his way over to his wife, holding out the tub of ice cream and a silver spoon.
"Here you go." Handing her the ice cream, he climbed onto his side of the bed and reached a hand over to rest it on her swollen belly, his smile only growing wider. "Hello to you too …" The sudden realization that they had not thought about names crossed his mind. After a few seconds of silence, he looked up at Jess, his green eyes shining with excitement, "We have to think of a name for her!"
The grin on her face only widened as her husband came into their bedroom, her cheeks beginning to feel a bit sore from smiling. Ever since they had found out about their child on the way, Jessica seemed to be smiling nonstop, constantly giddy and prepared for the future ahead of them. Sure, it had been more than a bit unexpected, and perhaps even a bit inconvenient, given both of their work in the mutant activist field and the more dangerous missions they often embarked on together, but there was nothing in the world the mutant would trade their budding family for. “Thank you very much, love,” she mused, taking the spoon and tub without much hesitation, propping her back against the headboard and stuffing a rather large chunk of ice cream into her mouth. With the silver utensil hanging unceremoniously out of her mouth, she swallowed the cold treat, glancing down at Daniel. “Want some?” she asked, her words muffled by the spoon, the general effect causing her to go into a fit of giggles. Always making a fool of yourself, ever since day one, the girl thought to herself, pulling the spoon from her mouth and smiling once again.
Conscious of his hand upon her stomach, Jess beamed at Danny’s words, her heart racing just a bit before she felt another little kick from the baby. “S’that you saying hello to Daddy, kiddo?” she cooed, bringing her own hand down to rest next to her husband’s, her fingers grazing his fondly. “Pretty violent, but hell, it seems like you’re taking after your Mum.” Another laugh left her lips at this joke, and she gave Daniel a playful wink. At his exclamation, she felt her eyes widen a bit, her mouth falling open a bit at the realization that they still hadn’t decided a name for their baby girl. “Shite, you’re right! We do, don’t we?” It was exciting to think about, naming their first child, though knowing the two of them, neither of them would settle on one that was anything less than perfect. “Right…” she began, sitting up a bit so that she could think a bit straighter, her mind already racing with the possibilities. “D’you have any suggestions, babe?” Jessica looked at Danny, cocking her eyebrow as if she were daring him to impress her, a smile still twitching on her lips.
The mutant rolled around onto her side, tangled up in the covers of her’s and her husband’s rather large bed, attempting to find a position she was comfortable in. It had been around a month and a half since she had discovered she was pregnant, and due to the extremities of mutant genetics, she was already beginning to swell as if she were a human at in the middle of the second trimester. The morning sickness was, luckily, beginning to fade away, only to make room for the numerous wacky food cravings Jessica Knight had been having, most of which were a variety of mixtures between salty and sweet. Recently, she had taken a particular liking to salted caramel, though apparently she had gone through an entire pint of that flavor of ice cream within less than a week alone, and now she was going to have to settle for a subpar flavor—though she figured she could manage. With the baby due in around two months, the blonde was beginning to feel rather anxious, and more than a bit nervous given her history, though she was glowing with anticipation for the lovely Bledel girl to be brought into the world. Jess could already picture her smiling with Danny’s dimples prominent on her freckled cheeks, and could see a mop of dirty blonde curls framing her face as big blue eyes peered up at the pair of them…
And almost immediately upon the thought, Jessica felt the baby kick a bit in her stomach, causing the soon-to-be mother to let out a little gasp of surprised delight. “Daniel, are you almost done in the kitchen?” she shouted, hoping he would hear her down the stairs, a smile twitching on the girl’s lips. “I think your daughter wants to say hello to you!”
